The emotional throughlines feel thinner however, with relationships struggling to carry the weight of increasingly cosmic threats and rushed revelations. Walker’s ideas remain compelling—there’s ambition in the magic system and the moral consequences it teases—but the execution doesn’t always give those moments room to land. It’s an uneven installment that advances the plot decisively, even as it weakens the series’ strongest emotional foundations.
