Sometimes being caught in a blizzard…
Can be murder.

After spending Christmas with her adoptive mother, dog-mom and amateur sleuth, Eve, is glad to be back home in Granite. She’s ready to get back to her normal life and is committed to following her New Year’s resolutions. Unfortunately the best of her intentions go out the window when a blizzard causes a power outage for the whole town.

She joins a search for a missing child, and while she’s out with Willow, they come across a shed that the dog refuses to approach. Eve knows finding the missing child is more important than delving into a new mystery, but once the child is located and returned perfectly healthy to her parents, Eve goes back out to the mysterious shed with Atlas and makes a gruesome discovery.

The sheriff doesn’t want to open an investigation until the roads are cleared and the town has power again, but Eve decides to take matters into her own hands and tries to solve the case herself.

Will she catch a killer? Or will she find herself frozen with fear?

Granite, and Eve and Willow are called out to rescue a lost little girl…only to stumble upon a second, far more gruesome discovery. Because in Granite, saving the day and finding a body often go hand in hand. :P

This installment felt more complex than some of the earlier books, and I loved that. Patti Benning continues to keep me guessing, layering in smart twists and thoughtful nuances that make the mystery feel fresh and engaging right to the end.

Julie McKay is the absolute Queen of narration. Her pacing, clarity, and command of a large cast of characters is masterclass level. She makes cozy mysteries feel effortless and immersive, and this series simply wouldn’t be the same without her.

Keep it up, Patti and Julie, you’re a dynamic duo and Bone Cold is another snowy win.

A snowstorm and power outage wreaks havoc with the residents of Granite. Added to all this, Eve and her search and rescue dog, Willow are called out to search for a missing eight year old girl. During the search, something piqued Willow’s interest, which Eve hasn’t been able to get out of her mind.

The ease with which Julie gives each character their own personality and voice is a joy to listen. I love Julie’s flawless transition between the characters. I particularly like how Julie added another layer of emotion to the scene where Eve revisits the location Willow showed interest in, the trust Eve has in her dog shone through here!

Thank you Patti for another enjoyable addition to this sweet series.
