As evidence mounts against Logan, whose crime novel bears eerie similarities to the real murder, Ryker races against time to prove his mate's innocence. But with a killer on the loose and dark secrets emerging from the past, their growing bond puts them both in danger. Logan must decide if he can trust Ryker with not only his freedom but also his heart, while Ryker struggles to protect his mate without revealing the supernatural world that could destroy everything they're building together.
In a small town where nothing stays secret for long, Logan and Ryker discover that sometimes the greatest mysteries aren't the ones you solve—they're the ones you fall in love with.

There was not enough world building considering both humans and shifters/werewolves seem to both have alpha/omega secondary gender. It’s not even mentioned outright that one of the men in the pairing is an omega until towards the end of the book.
The logic throughout this book had holes and needed to be better flushed out. I couldn’t see an actual logical reason for the events in the past even after the truth of everything is revealed. Honestly the reason was invalidated by the author themselves bc they gave contradictory information in the monologue towards the end of the first plot. Also the fact that the omega should have shown some level of recognition or familiarity with someone so heavily tied to something that literally shaped the trajectory of his life was COMPLETELY overlooked. So much so, I kept waiting for an explanation that never came.
The first like 2/3 of the book is a “mystery” (there is no mystery, it’s obvious from the start and the pieces “fall into place” repeatedly for the sheriff so often that it’s a miracle it took him 2/3 of the book to actually do something about it considering he figures it out almost immediately). Then the last 1/3 is a slice of life romance about a couple we have no buy in for because the only interaction they’ve had until that point is meeting in person maybe 5 times, one of which was an interrogation. Even the alpha of the pair mentions it’s odd how quickly the omega is just taking this whole hidden supernatural world thing a little too well.
I get it’s a short story, but at least give us more than surface level interactions with the main characters. Their romance feels unearned and honestly I don’t buy the human actually loving the werewolf because everything is time skipped and we never actually see their relationship build or grow. It just bam, cut to everything is all rosy and romantic.
Also there is absolutely no tension in this book between the love interests. They’re both immediately understanding with each other at all times, no questions asked from first sight. The human should have some kind of hesitation/suspicion/level of being on guard with the sheriff initially considering the how the plot starts.
