In this talk Osho suggest to stop living on the surface and invites us to dive deep into live, into the vertical–

"Once a man has known himself as a crossroad, he cannot be disinterested, he cannot be unintrigued about the vertical. The horizontal he knows, but the vertical opens a door to eternity, where death does not exist; where one simply becomes more and more part of the cosmic whole; where one loses all bondages, even the bondage of the body.”

Edit: This speech is contained in When eternity penetrates time: this is the shortened version of that speech. He makes it clear that on the horizontal line you have normal human life which equates to a linear series of events: your born, you live and you die. Every day that goes by your grave is coming closer to you. He then mentions the vertical line where the purpose is awareness and awakening thus being a far more spiritual approach to life. The horizontal line provides more of an ego trip but ultimately will seem pointless and hollow whereas the vertical line conveys a sense of belonging to all of reality. This Osho talk had a slow start but about half way through in Osho fashion the speech becomes far more meaningful.

This Osho talk was all about maturity in the sense of purpose in life.
