Shield of Sparrows is a slow-burn, high-stakes romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros—where enemies become lovers, monsters stalk a cursed realm, and a forgotten princess finds the strength to tear off her crown and become the warrior she was never meant to be.

The gods sent monsters to the five kingdoms to remind mortals they must kneel.

I've spent my life kneeling—to their will and to my father's. As a princess, my only duty is to wear the crown and obey the king.

I was never meant to rule. Never meant to fight. And I was never supposed to be the daughter who sealed an ancient treaty with her own blood.

But that changed the fateful day I stepped into my father's throne room. The day a legendary monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day a prince ruined my life.

Now I'm crossing treacherous lands beside a warrior who despises me as much as I despise him—bound to a future I didn't choose and a husband I barely know.

Everyone wants me to be something I'm not—a queen, a spy, a sacrifice.

But what if I refused the role chosen for me? What if I made my own rules? What if there's power in being underestimated?

And what if—for the first time—I reached for it?

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

I did an immersive reread and loved the Graphic Audio narration so much more than the original audiobook. Great performance but I noticed a few times where the narrator for Odessa mixed up Ransom and Ramsey’s names in ways that were confusing to the plot! It would be great if Graphic Audio could fix these, but still, I loved it overall!

I guess I have a soft spot for monsters!

Movie in my mind

Well, this second half was just as brilliant as the first half of Shield of Sparrows. I think where this book is split was perfect in understanding the character development and storyline. Part 2 is more focused on Odessa getting a chance to discover who she is in her new home. She is making herself a true home and making friends when she thought that to be impossible. Her relationship with the Guardian is growing as she learns more of his secrets. They're both getting on the same page and fighting the right monsters within the realm.

It's within part 2 that I feel as though this story really made itself stand out from other Romantasy books. The story is truly original and can go in so many directions. I have so many questions and legit could not hit the pause button. I was hooked into this audiobook since part 1. The hardest part was waiting for part 2 to be released.

And this ending felt twice as crazy than the first time. I thought I would be better prepared as I had read this book last summer. That would be a total lie, and I found myself just as captivated by that ending as the first time. I was in emotional distress with the musical side effects and narrators bringing this ending to life. It truly felt like a movie within my mind. All I could do was press play and listen to the story unfold. I'm so excited for the rest of this series because that ending left me with more questions and theories of what could be happening.

I forgot how many details were shared at the very end of the book. I'm sure these details will be very crucial for when the next book releases. Shoutout to this amazing cast of narrators that brought this story to life. They made each character feel so life like and real. I could feel their emotions and struggles trying to survive in a world of monsters. Truly, Shield of Sparrows is a one-of-a-kind monster story with characters that will linger long after the story is finished.

I waited awake to listen to this part of the graphic audio as soon as it released, as it helps with my immersive reading. I'm so glad I did!!! I was actually on the edge of my seat. It was so hard to put down. All the actors did a fantastic job at making me feel emotions throughout different scenes. I expected some of the twists but others I HAD NO IDEA! Looking back, it mostly makes sense. I assume that the things that weren't fully explained will be explored later in future books. I'm sad that it's over for now. I will eagerly await for this version for book 2

My only notable gripe was a name being switched during a narration line when talking about a particular person during Chapter 48, page 392 on the hardcover. If someone is only listening to this version without the text in their hands, it may cause confusion. Especially because that name being correct is important to the plot.

Such A Great Story!!! (Spoiler-Free)

What a horrifying and terrible world in which this book exists, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to live there. It has been so long since I have been gripped by a story like this. It’s too beautiful not to share, but I want to hoard it away and keep it all for myself. Truly magnificent in writing, in performance, in everything. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment from GA.
