When Averil saves a young man from a shipwreck, she thinks she feels the Soul Echo—the sign that the young human male is her one true mate. And the malevolent Sea Witch is all too happy to offer a deal that could make all her dreams come true. He wants her to win the prince's heart—even coaches her in the art of seduction. But what is the real price of the Sea Witch's help? Why is he more brutally beautiful—and charming—than Averil expected?
Perfect for listeners who simp for the villain and who enjoy dark, deliciously spicy retellings of beloved fairy tales, reminiscent of the original but unique enough to keep it interesting!

The Little Mermaid has always been my favorite Disney story. I never thought to reimagine it flipped with the Sea Witch being a man.
It was a brilliant idea to do so. This book is a page turner, or shall I say, a nonstop listen. It’s plot-driven and well thought out. The writing style really pulled me in and there wasn’t any lag in the story.
This story reminded me of Wicked. Not that the plots were anywhere near similar. It was the fact that I felt like we were able to delve into a world where this was really the real story. Growing up, in the original Wizard of Oz, we always assumed the Wicked Witch of the West was evil. We were told why, we just believed it. Wicked gave us a prequel where we saw what the real story was.
In this book, The Sea Witch by Rebecca Kenny, I feel like we dive into what the real story of the Little Mermaid really is. The Sea Witch really isn't wicked. Betrayal of his loved ones is what leads him to his vengeful heart in his quest for vengeance.
But there are always two sides to a story, and this is it.
This story is well written. The author does a phenomenal job with descriptions, dialogue, and really bringing the story to written words to pop off the page.
Both narrators did a fantastic job. Especially, Hugo Locke. His voice really brings out the emotions of the story.
I was rooting for Averil and Zoltan.
They are my favorite couple of the year. This is my favorite audiobook of the year and by far my favorite Little Mermaid.
I look forward to listening to other works from this author in this series. As well as other books she's written in general, because she's a wonderful writer.
Best Little Mermaid Ever! Behind The Real Story
