A fateful shipwreck leaves the young and wealthy Lord Brandon presumed dead, and his estate in England lies abandoned and ripe for the picking. Years later, his step-cousin Justine finds him alive and drug-addicted, and against his family's wishes, boldly brings him home to reclaim his inheritance.

Dark surprises disturb Brandon at every turn - a ruined property, a traitorous, bitter family, his fiancee married to his rival. And Justine, the shy, quiet girl he grew up with is no longer a little girl, but an alluring and determined young woman. Can he trust her or is she a part of the intricate web of lies and half-truths?

As they work together to salvage what's left of Wolfsgate and their place in society, age-old jealousies and shadowy secrets threaten at every turn, but irresistible passions run wild and prove even more powerful.

Justine is his wife, after all.

Justine and Brandon have been bound in a marriage forced upon them by their family for their own deceitful purposes. But the deep, loyal bond that grows between husband and wife isn't part of their enemies' plan. In fact, it could destroy their plan.

No one counted on Brandon and Justine falling in love. Not even Brandon and Justine.

Contains mature themes.

The story overall is good, but the lack of communication occurs throughout the entire book. This would have made a great 4-6 hour novella. I do understand hiding the truth and misunderstandings are common themes in romance novels, but it’s way too drawn out in this book. Gave me anxiety, kept wanting to yell at the characters to just be straight forward. Also, it’s a little smut heavy, but that does help fill in gaps between all the lying and avoidance.

The performances were amazing and honestly why I was able to finish. Will Thorne is one of my favorite masculine voices for period romances and Justine Eyre is a gem.

The story was good but the performance added a heavy dose of cringe. The female narrator was excessively croaky, gaspy and leaned into the accent too hard to be believable. The male reader's cadence was unusual enough to be distracting, either oddly drawing out the last syllable of every sentence or rattling off as if reading a grocery list. That said, their voices are good enough to make me hope their respective performances improve with time and experience. I'd like to hear from them again- hold the cheese next time.

The narration made this a struggle to finish.

This was good! Great! Amazing! I picked this up because I listened to a book narrated by Will Thorne and his voice is absolutely incredible. It was very well written. The plot was nice and the flow was even better. I loved how she was determined to help him see how important he is and I love that he was able to love her the way she deserves. The spice in this was another pleasant surprise. The way he yearned for her was really attractive. He’s also very very vocal about what he wants, feels, is doing!!! It was quite intense. This was a perfect blend of love, spice, pearl grabbing (historical and regency romances usually do leave me scandalized 😂) and drama. I really enjoyed listening to this.

Tired of nambie-pambie regency romances? This will knock your socks off! Edge of your seat, what will happen next, smoldering sex, twisted secrets, but with an HEA. Don't pass it up if you have the nerve!
