Some stories aren’t just painted in blood—they’re carved into flesh, leaving nothing but ruin in their wake.
I survived his world, but not without changing me. Not without sinking me with him into the void. Turns out, sometimes, in order to set something free, you have to destroy it.
The game isn’t over. The lessons aren’t finished. And the deeper I go, the harder it is to tell where he ends and I begin.
THIS IS STOCKHOLM... TOXIC WITH NO—ABSOLUTELY NO HAPPY ENDING..

The emotion Joe Arden and Corvin King brought to this audio was incredible. They gave me absolute chills. Two men losing themselves in the obsession. This book wasn’t easy to listen to, it’s messed up. Probably one of the darkest I’ve read, but if you’re into that, tread lightly.
I had so many emotions for every character in this book, even Wren. Seeing him fight his own demons and the way his character written was phenomenal, and Joe Arden gave him justice…honestly I can’t imagine any other narrator for this book. It just..it was perfection. Mia Moreno did a phenomenal job with the female characters. God her emotion guts you. I can’t say enough about these narrators!
But like it says in the beginning. This book is not a romance. It’s dark, deprived, and twisted. And it’s written to make you uncomfortable, and it hit its mark thoroughly. But it sticks its claws in and keeps you hooked. I will NEVER forget this duet
This gutted me

What makes this story truly exceptional is its refusal to look away from the uncomfortable. Luna K. Wicked writes with a precision that’s both beautiful and deeply disturbing, exploring themes of control, trauma, and the way damage compounds when two broken people collide. The narrative is psychologically complex and genuinely haunting—the kind of work that stays with you long after the final page.
The audiobook elevates this experience to another level entirely. Joe Arden’s portrayal of Ren is genuinely horrifying; he captures a man so far gone that his performance becomes viscerally unsettling. Corvin King brings heartbreaking vulnerability to Byron’s internal struggle, especially in depicting the lasting wounds of paternal rejection. Even in her smaller role, Mia Moreno pours emotional authenticity into Gabriella and leaves an indelible mark. Bravo to the entire cast.

“𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘵.”
Please make sure to read the content warnings before diving into this book. Painter’s Obsession is a dark MM Erotic Horror, and it comes with a lengthy list of triggers.
“𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘴—𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘺, 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘮 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬.”
I received the ALC for the first book, and when this one showed up in my inbox, I couldn’t wait to dive in. I needed to know what happened next. I debated between waiting for the audiobook and reading the book myself, and I’m so glad I chose to wait.
“𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴. 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘐𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳. 𝘏𝘦’𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵.”
Joe Arden, Corvin King, and Mia Moreno absolutely brought this story to life. Their performances were phenomenal. The depth of emotion they delivered made everything feel visceral; you feel the pain, the angst, the longing right along with them. By the end, I was in tears.
“𝘐𝘧 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘦𝘺𝘦𝘴, 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴.”
I’ll say it again because it truly captures how I felt after experiencing both books: this story is raw, painful, and drenched in darkness. At times, it will make you uncomfortable and leave you questioning exactly what you’re reading. Yet even when you’re repelled, you’re still completely hooked. In the back of your mind, you’re silently hoping for Ren’s redemption, though deep down, you know it’s not coming. You want the happy ending you know will never exist, but you still hope, just a little, that something might change.
“𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘥… 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘯𝘰 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶.”
Overall, this was a five-star read. But by the end, I was left broken and in tears. That seems to be the theme of my reading year so far.
