Hunter has spent the last two years running in place. Trying to get ahead of the bills. Trying to provide for her sister, Piper, and her nephews. Trying to finish her nursing education. Trying to keep Piper out of her criminal husband's claws.

Big, bad Jed Wolfe is a con artist, a manipulator, and he's currently doing 10 years for counterfeiting. Now is Hunter's best chance to convince Piper that he's bad news and that they can survive without him.

Except the mortgage is overdue again, there's an eviction notice stapled to the front door, and Hunter can see it in Piper's eyes. She wants to crawl back to Jed and ask him how to dig out of this mess.

They're getting desperate, and Hunter begs Piper not to be like him.

Then along comes a beautiful girl in a red cap. Her grandmother is sick, she needs Hunter's nursing help, and the pay is great. It's just what they need, and soon Hunter is able to catch her breath. Stop running in place. Start to feel something that she hasn't had time for in years.

Contains mature themes.

But it kinda lacked substance. Like a rock without pebbles. It had a plot and wasn't boring, but there was no feeling of dread or worry at all. It was just too clean cut. Like a check list.

I personally am not a fan of the narrator, but that's because of other books. So it took away from the enjoyment a bit.

It was alright..

Hunter is helping her sister Piper and nephews keep a roof over their head and food on the table. Jed Wolfe their father is a con artist in prison who still has Piper in his thrall. Then a beautiful girl in a red hat needs nursing help for her grandmother during the day and Hunter gets the job. Can this lead to a way forward to getting a little better life. Sweet romance.

Modern Red Riding Hood

I wont lie the story/plot was a bit cheesy and pretty basic but I personally liked that it didn't dip too much into all the obvious cliches and stretch out the conflict unnecessarily to lengthen the story. Plus I feel like retellings of classics are naturally a bit cheesy so you get exactly what you sign up for. The narrator was personally fine, people are mean about her voice/tone but it was literally fine and people all sound different. She did a good job of bringing life to the characters and reading the story. SPOILERS I do think Pipers character was very annoying and manipulative and her 'scared straight' section of persoal growth at the end was slightly unbelievable to me because of her lies and manipulating throughout the rest of the book. But I also feel like Hunter was a little too 'perfect'/bland so in general I feel like the sisters could have used more character development/had more generally to their characters.

Wholesome love story
