Hidden Powers. An Ancient Academy. Forbidden Fruits.

After years of service in the Imperial Expeditionary Force, Jol Rivers has found a tentative home in Littlereach, where he makes a living as a blacksmith.

One day, however, a beautiful mage arrives and tells him that he has a mysterious magical power hidden within the items he forges, one that could defeat the malignant forces threatening the Second Empire. She invites him to the Lyceum, an institute for mages where he can develop this power.

Little does Jol know that he has his own knowledge to impart to the other students, the kind of forbidden talents that binds them to him…

I really enjoyed School of Magic 1! The story was engaging with great pacing and strong character development. The world-building was rich, and I especially liked the very detailed and easily imagined fight scenes—they really brought the action to life.

There were several long and detailed sex scenes, and while I wasn’t expecting that much, I still thought they were well written and added something to the characters. Overall, a great listen and I’m looking forward to the next one!

I'd say for a Date King book it was good. Now it takes most of the book before any magic school even happens. Id definitely classify it as age gap. I'll be reading book 2 soon.

better than the average DK book

I never write reviews for this genre, but this book was surprisingly good and had an actual story that was interesting. It's a 5 star book for the genre - it's not a 5 star book compared to "real" books. I hope I dont offend anyone by making that comparison. It's a bit weird because I had sworn to myself that I'd never buy another Dante King book again because the last I read was trash, but this book is really good and I'm looking forward to the 2nd book.
