Darby Kane, author of the #1 international bestseller Pretty Little Wife, returns with a gripping domestic thriller in which a family goes missing and a long-buried family mystery resurfaces. The audiobook features a compelling multicast narration by Megan Tusing, Rebekkah Ross, Emily Woo Zeller, and Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, bringing the story's tension and characters vividly to life."

Fifteen years ago, the Tanner family vanished without a trace, leaving behind a chilling scene: half-eaten meals, a bloodstain by the door, and a smoldering fire consuming their business across town.

The once-vibrant home stands untouched, a haunting relic of the past. As rumors fade into local folklore, the mystery of their disappearance seems destined to remain unsolved—until Aubrey Tanner returns.

Now a hardened thirty-year-old, Aubrey arrives in town with secrets etched in her silence. Why did she come back? Was she a victim of the night that changed everything, or does she hold the truth of what happened to her family? The town is rife with theories, but three women share a dangerous bond: they know more than they’ve ever confessed.

As the past resurfaces, old alliances fray. A teacher, a café owner, and a psychologist are drawn together by memories they’d rather forget. Each holds a piece of the puzzle—and a dark secret of their own. When a new disappearance sends shock waves through the town, blackmail begins, and the stakes climb higher.

In a race against time, these women must confront the truth or risk becoming the next victims of a past they cannot escape. With tension rising and danger lurking, one thing is clear: someone is destined to kill again.

I liked this book, it was good. It was slow at times and I was very confused, some parts just didn’t make sense and it took me more than half the book to keep the characters straight and who was who. And all the disappearances just didn’t make sense. I liked it, it just wasn’t my favorite of hers and I’ve read most of hers and loved them. The ending clarified things but still was confusing, I think there was just so much going on, it was hard to keep straight.

Good book, a little slow but still liked it!

There was a lot more going on in the Tanner family than anyone knew, but everyone has their secrets. Who, though, holds the secrets to what happened the night the Tanner family disappeared, and just how is it that Aubrey, after missing for 15 years, has reappeared? Alive and unscathed? Did she kill her family? Suffice it to say, everyone is lying, but about what?

I enjoyed reading this page-turner and would highly recommend it to others.

A page-turner from start to finish!

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook, but couldn’t keep in my head which of four women was narrated each chapter. Aubrey Tanner’s parts were more easily identifiable due to her outsider status and her reappearance after 15 years. The others—the mother, the teacher and the therapist—bled together for me.

SUCH A CLEVER GIRL is a fairly forgettable story filled with characters most people wouldn’t want in their lives.

Forgettable

The plot started off good but quickly fell flat. I found this one to be boring and hard to finish. The voices of the male characters were awful. I found that to be very distracting.
