Everything you know about your gods is a lie. Born into a ruling family, Ivy Fellows is no stranger to power. In a nation devoid of magic and forced to worship the Golden Pantheon, Ivy has used her position to loudly oppose the gods, earning her enemies and a slanderous nickname in the process.

When the King dies without an heir, Ivy must take her ailing father's place at the Ascension Vote to stop the most powerful man in Corinth from taking the throne. Armed with weapons, wit, and secret earth magic in her veins, Ivy is ready to make the cross-country trek to the capital city, even if it means being forced to travel with the battle-famed Captain Callan Murphy, a man with a reputation even larger than her own.

But nothing is as it seems. Determined to secure the captain as an ally, Ivy pushes Callan to open up and begins to suspect that he's hiding magic of his own. But uncovering his truths leads to a forbidden discovery of rebellion, bargains, prophecy, and destiny, culminating in an earth-shattering revelation that upends everything Ivy believes to be true.

Faced with a reality that looks nothing like the one she left behind, Ivy must learn to navigate her rapidly expanding magic and growing feelings for Callan to accomplish the impossible: kill a god and change the fate of her country, her world, and herself.

Godsbane, the first book in a planned fantasy romance duology, is perfect for fans of the descriptive prose, high stakes, and epic love stories of The Serpent and the Wings of Night, The Plated Prisoner, and Throne of Glass.

Clear the whole day, once you start, you will be helpless to do anything else until you finish this book. The voice acting would get a million stars if I could, Jacci and Anthony together are god tier! I absolutely loved Ivy & Cal’s love story and am feral for book 2! The plot? It’s Feminine rage and political intrigue. It’s adventures and small moments. It’s lore and world building. Highly recommend!

This was a first for me all the way around—new author, new narrators, and honestly, I had never even heard of this book before. I had just finished another audiobook on Audible when the sample for Godsbane started playing… and that prologue? Immediately hooked. Like no hesitation, I needed to keep going—and I am so glad I did.
This story completely pulled me in from the start and never let go. The world-building is so immersive, blending royalty, politics, gods/goddesses, and elemental magic in a way that feels effortless. It’s one of those stories where you don’t even realize how deep you are until you’re fully invested.
Ivy and Callan were everything. Ivy is such a strong, powerful FMC—fierce, resilient, and unwavering in who she is, even while discovering her abilities and identity. I loved that she never lets the expectations of others define her. She owns her power and what she’s willing to sacrifice for her people, and there’s such a strong theme of feminine strength and resilience woven throughout her character.
And Callan… wow. A brutal war captain on the outside, but completely devoted to Ivy. He never tries to overshadow her—he supports her and is honestly just in awe of her. The "he falls first" energy? So good. Their dynamic had the perfect mix of tension, emotion, banter, and heat. The story balances intensity, romance, and high-stakes moments so well—it just keeps building and pulling you deeper in.
And the narration?? SO good. The duet style by Jacci Prior and Anthony Palmini made everything feel more immersive and emotional. They brought Ivy and Callan to life in a way that made every moment hit harder, and it truly elevated the entire experience.
I’m honestly surprised this book isn’t being talked about more because it absolutely should be. It completely caught me off guard in the best way and is one of those stories that sticks with you after you finish.
This is a duology, and I cannot wait to jump into the next book.
Highly recommend going in blind—just hit play and let it pull you in.
